Department of Organic Chemistry

The Department of Organic Chemistry of the Faculty of Chemistry of the National University of Tajikistan is one of the main departments of the Faculty of Chemistry, was established in 1961 and has been working effectively to train professional specialists in the field of organic chemistry, scientific research, teachers of higher and secondary specialized educational institutions.

The Department of Organic Chemistry, the basic department and the first independent department at the faculty, which was created under the same name and still operates. One of the main reasons for the creation of the department was the presence of highly qualified specialists in this field at the faculty.

The work of the Department of Organic Chemistry is focused on ensuring the educational process in specialized disciplines and topics at the Faculty of Chemistry.

During its existence, the following teachers headed the department: Ph.D., Associate Professor Numanov Eshonkul Usmonovich (1961-1965); Ph.D., Associate Professor Alexander Borisovich Zegelman (1965-1976); Ph.D., Associate Professor Yusupov Tillo Yusupovich (1976-1987); Ph.D., Associate Professor (then Ph.D., Professor) Khalikov Shirinbek Khalikovich (1987 — 2009); PhD, Associate Professor Murod Zokovich Kodirov (2009 — 2017); PhD, Associate Professor (then PhD, Professor) Rajabov Sirozhiddin Ikromovich (2017-2021); PhD, Associate Professor Murod Zokovich Kodirov (from 2021 to the present).

The activity of the department is aimed at training specialists in the field of organic chemistry, teachers of general education, secondary specialized and higher educational institutions, researchers in the field of chemistry, scientific and production workers of industrial institutions and industrial enterprises, organizational and managerial workers in institutions of general education, secondary specialized and higher educational institutions.

The Department of Organic Chemistry is the profile department of the Faculty of Chemistry and performs the following functions: provides training sessions in the disciplines assigned to the department – lectures, seminars and laboratory classes in accordance with the academic load and according to the approved plan; provides advice to students on the subjects taught, carries out intermediate and final certification of students in the form of tests and exams based on the results of the development of educational material, organizes and regularly monitors the independent work of students, including their homework, term papers, performs educational and methodological work that ensures the conduct of the educational process at a high level, carries out educational work among students.

Research activities

The main directions of research work

Synthesis and investigation of the properties of derivatives of carboxylic acids, amino acids, peptides, acetylsalicylic acid, heterocyclic compounds and steroids. Research and development of new synthesis methods and their application in medicine.

Extraction of organic components from medicinal plants. The study of the physico-chemical and biological properties of the isolated components and their practical application.

Preparation and publication of textbooks on various sections of organic chemistry (bioorganic chemistry, nanochemistry, chemistry of natural compounds, chemistry of amino acids, peptides and proteins, analysis of organic compounds, heterocyclic compounds, fullerenes, chromatographic methods for studying the composition of plant products and extracts).

Preparation and study of compositions based on aliphatic, aromatic, heterocyclic amino acids and their coordination compounds with medicinal plants.

Preparation and study of pharmacological properties of the composition of isoleucine, tryptophan and acetylsalicylic acid derivatives with medicinal plants and fulluren C60.

Preparation and investigation of physico-chemical properties of composites based on tryptophan-containing dipeptides with sea buckthorn plants, golden root and peppermint extract.

Pharmacological properties of coordination compounds of silver and copper with tryptophan and isoleucine.

• Investigation of the reactions of nucleophilic isohypse substitution of chlorine atoms in glycerol derivatives: in particular, in the α-monochlorohydrin of glycerol and α,γ-dichlorohydrin of glycerol, as well as the disclosure of the oxyrane ring of epichlorohydrin under the action of carboxyl and amino groups of amino acids and peptides;

• Search for areas of practical use of new aliphatic, aromatic and heterocyclic synthesized glycerin derivatives for the creation of new biological materials, plant growth regulators, extractants, ligands for processes with a complex of emerging chemical properties and chemical reagents;

• Development of more advanced methods for the synthesis of new derivatives of epichlorohydrin, α-monochlorohydrin glycerin and α,γ-dichlorohydrin glycerin; identification of their positive characteristics, determination of the dependence of chemical composition and biological activity;

• Study of the regularities of decomposition of derivatives of epichlorohydrin, α-monochlorohydrin glycerin and α,γ-dichlorohydrin glycerin under the action of an electron shock and confirmation of the structure, composition and purity of these substances using IR, mass, NMR spectra, thin-layer chromatography and GC.

Educational activities:

The department is a graduate and trains specialists in the specialty — “Chemist. Chemistry teacher”. Graduate qualification – Bachelor — chemist, Master – chemist.

The training of students of chemical disciplines is based on the principle of training scientific, scientific-pedagogical and scientific-production personnel for the needs of practical activity, primarily in the field of organic chemistry, it is for this purpose that new training courses are constantly being developed and implemented at the department. The acquisition of chemical disciplines by students of the specialty is carried out by providing the department with a cycle of the following main disciplines:
